Remember, Remember what went on in November at Blatchington Manor
It’s been another exciting month at our dementia specialist residential home, Blatchington Manor. From live entertainment, exciting games, creative arts and crafts and reminiscence activities – there’s never a dull moment
Bonfire Night
This November, the magic of Bonfire Night lit up our community. Residents enjoyed a dazzling display of fireworks, shared laughter with loved ones, and warmed their hearts (and hands!) with steaming cups of hot chocolate and delicious slices of traditional parkin cake.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to the incredible staff whose hard work made it such a glowing success.
Seaford Strummers
We were lucky enough to get a performance from the Seaford Strummers this month – a group of 8 talented musicians who gave us a fantastic performance.
“We are a band of local ukulele enthusiasts that first got together at the beginning of 2016. Now that we have developed a varied repertoire of songs, we are keen to perform, for local community groups or at charity events.”
All of the residents had a fantastic time listening and moving along to the amazing tunes. Thanks again to the Seaford Strummers!
Strictly come Seaford
We also had a visit from Barry and Beata – Latin and ballroom dancers, who brought joy to our residents with a lively performance of graceful waltzes, vibrant sambas, and rhythmic cha-cha-cha’s. The music and movement sparked smiles, clapping, and we even got a lesson in some of the moves! Some residents stood up to take part in whilst others took part from their seats! It evoked cherished memories of past dances and sparked conversation of school balls and dancing with their sweethearts.
For the residents, it appeared to be a moment of connection and delight; for the dancers, it was a chance to witness the uplifting power of their art! It was clear the wonderful performance bridged some gaps created by memory loss and we look forward to their return!
Memory Lane Café Launch
This month we launched our first dementia café for the community, we provided companionship and entertainment which created a relaxed atmosphere for those who attended, and support for their loved ones who came along too. Guests enjoyed delicious freshly baked treats alongside cozy beverages—just the thing to brighten a chilly Monday morning and kickstart the week!
Our next one will be in January, 2025! Watch this space.
Up Next: Our Christmas Party!
We’re already gearing up for our next big event—our much-anticipated Christmas celebration! Stay tuned for festive updates as we deck the halls and prepare for a season of joy and togetherness.
