Choosing the right care for a loved one is one of the most important decisions your family will make. It can feel stressful, so understanding your options and planning for future care needs can help you make the right choice from the start.

At South Coast Nursing Homes, we know that understanding how it is all funded can sometimes feel overwhelming. Navigating the world of care fees, local authority thresholds, and NHS support comes with a lot of new terminology, and it is completely normal to have questions.

We are committed to providing the guidance you need to understand exactly what to expect, allowing you to focus on what matters most: ensuring your loved one receives the exceptional care and comfort they deserve, at a cost that you can plan and manage.

At South Coast Nursing Homes, we provide a range of care homes designed to support residents at every stage of later life. Whether you’re looking for companionship and day-to-day assistance, specialist dementia care, or full-time nursing support, we’re here to help you make the right choice with confidence.

Residential Care

Residential care is ideal for individuals who require help with day-to-day living but do not need regular nursing intervention. Care is provided by experienced and compassionate care assistants, with additional medical support from a GP when required.

Each resident receives a tailored care plan developed in partnership with them and their family, ensuring their preferences, routines, and needs are always respected.

Dementia Care

Our dementia residential care is designed specifically for individuals living with early to moderate stages of dementia. Our homes are carefully adapted to create a safe, supportive, and reassuring environment.

We focus on creating a positive and engaging setting where residents can continue to enjoy meaningful activities and maintain their quality of life.

Nursing Care

Nursing care is suited to individuals with more complex medical needs that require ongoing monitoring and professional clinical support.

Our nursing homes have fully qualified, registered nurses on site 24 hours a day. They are responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of care, ensuring residents receive the highest standard of medical attention alongside personal support.

Despite the level of care provided, our homes are designed to feel comfortable and homely, offering residents privacy, dignity, and a supportive community.

We believe in absolute clarity so you can budget with confidence. Your weekly fee at South Coast Nursing Homes includes:

  • 24-hour personalised residential, dementia, or nursing care.

  • Your private, fully furnished bedroom with en-suite facilities.

  • All meals, snacks, and drinks prepared fresh daily by our on-site chefs.

  • Full laundry and daily housekeeping services.

  • Access to all communal lounges, gardens, and facilities.

  • Our full daily schedule of activities, outings, entertainment, and events.

Fees can vary depending on the level of care required, the type of accommodation chosen, and the individual needs of each resident. Please visit the pages of our individual homes for specific fee information.

The only things not covered by the standard weekly fee are personal extras or third-party services you choose to use. These typically include:

  • Personal newspapers or magazines.
  • Private chiropody appointments.
  • Hairdressing and beauty treatments at our salon.
  • Personal toiletries.

Fees are reviewed annually to reflect inflation and the rising costs of providing exceptional care, utilities, food, and fair wages for our dedicated staff. Any annual increase typically takes effect in April each year, and residents will receive at least 28 days’ written notice before any changes are applied.

We want every move into our home to be financially sustainable and as stress-free as possible for each family.

To support this, we ask all new residents to complete a confidential pre-admission financial affordability form. This helps us review your funding options together and estimate care fees over different timeframes, giving you long-term clarity and peace of mind before making any commitments.

We do not ask for formal proof of funds. Instead, our arrangements are built on mutual trust right from the start of our contract.

NHS-Funded Nursing Care (FNC) is a weekly contribution paid directly by the NHS to the care home provider. It is designed to cover the nursing element of care for anyone clinically assessed as needing the support of a registered nurse in a care home environment. Because it is not means-tested, your personal savings do not affect whether you qualify. However, the nursing home will need to complete a checklist to ensure the nursing needs criteria are met so the payment can be awarded. This can also be withdrawn should their needs improve.

Understanding different care home approaches to FNC

Because the NHS pays the FNC directly to the care provider rather than the resident, it is not legally mandatory for care homes to pass this saving on by deducting it from your personal bill. This has led to two different approaches across the care sector.

At South Coast Nursing Homes, we believe that NHS support should directly benefit your family, which is why we will always deduct the full FNC fee from your invoice. If your loved one is eligible, we pass 100% of that funding straight back to you, ensuring that the NHS contribution reduces your weekly fees. Many other care homes keep the FNC payment.
