New Year, New Activities at Rookwood and Blatchington Manor

Burns Night at Rookwood Residential Care Home

Rookwood Residential Home, Burgess Hill, West Sussex - South Coast Nursing Homes Specialist Nursing & Residential Care

There’s never a dull moment at our Rookwood Residential Residential Care Home in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, Rookwood.  The activities team always have fun events to keep our residents entertained and January was no different.

A Burns night celebration to commemorate the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns took place.  There was whisky tasting and a supper menu of mince and tatties along with Cranachan for dessert.  Of course, no Burns night would be complete without a Haggis, so it was received with great cheer when it arrived.  The famous “Address to the Haggis” was read along with many of the poet’s other famous works.

The fun didn’t stop there as over the course of the month the residents got involved in baking and flower arranging.

There was even a visit from Robbie the magician and his rabbit.  Robbie wowed everyone with his slight of hand and had his audience, and rabbit, eating out of the palm of his hand.

Over in our dementia specialist care home in Seaford, Blatchington Manor they too celebrated the life and times of The Scottish Bard.  Along with the traditional fare they celebrated with a bonfire and themed disco.

The team at Blatchington Manor also arrange knit and natter mornings with volunteers who come into the home and engage with our residents, helping to provide a varied and stimulating environment for everyone.

As with all our homes, we don’t just bring entertainment into the home, it’s important that we feel part of the community, so residents often go out to enjoy time outside of the home as well.  Just this month in Seaford our residents have had a chance to try an art session at St Peter’s Church, producing some fantastic pieces.  Two of our residents had a fantastic trip out to the local Forget me not café session.
