South Coast Nursing Homes is delighted to share that Pentlands Nursing Home, based in West Worthing, has once again been rated “Good” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following its latest assessment. Inspectors found a positive, person-centred culture throughout the home, highlighting the dedication of staff and the high-quality care residents receive every day.
A culture built around people
“People were cared for by staff who were kind and knew them well; their dignity was respected.”
The CQC assessment praised the home’s strong focus on personalised care, dignity and choice. Inspectors found that people received support tailored to their individual needs, preferences and wishes, while staff worked hard to promote independence and wellbeing. The report also highlighted effective governance and a positive culture that supports both residents and team members.

- Pentlands maintained an overall Good rating across all five assessed areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.

Supporting health, wellbeing and quality of life
The report recognised the home’s commitment to supporting residents’ health and wellbeing. People and their families were involved in care planning and reviews, helping to ensure care remained tailored to individual preferences and changing needs. Inspectors also found positive feedback regarding food, healthcare support and the overall standard of the environment.
One resident praised the dining experience, telling inspectors:
“Food is very good. The chefs come round and talk to me about meals, anything I would like and about the quality. No complaints from me. It’s all wonderfully cooked and there’s plenty of it.”
The CQC also noted that a range of activities and visiting entertainers help residents stay active, engaged and connected to their community.
Positive feedback from residents and families
Throughout the assessment, residents and relatives spoke warmly about the care provided at Pentlands and the impact staff have on quality of life.
One relative told inspectors:
“Pentlands is a first-class nursing home. The staff are first-class and caring. [Family members] always tell me how nice the food is. The home is clean and well maintained. We were recommended to Pentlands and would not hesitate to recommend others.”
Another relative reflected on the difference the home has made to their loved one, commenting:
“Her quality of life was enhanced by those at Pentlands.”
