A leap for MIND

On a mission to support mental health awareness, Anneka and her friend Mollie braved the elements to complete a thrilling 12,000-foot skydive. While most of us prefer to keep our feet firmly on the ground here in Seaford, Anneka and Mollie took the plunge to raise vital funds for MIND, a charity dedicated to ensuring no one has to face a mental health problem alone.

The courage shown by the duo is nothing short of inspiring. To date, their sky-high efforts have raised a staggering £2,685!

South Coast Nursing Homes is delighted to announce that Fernbank Residential Care Home has once again been rated “Good” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following a comprehensive assessment in late March and early April 2026.

The inspection, which focused on ensuring our high standards of care remain consistent, highlighted the dedication of our team and the vibrant, supportive atmosphere that our residents call home.

A culture of safety and compassion

The CQC report praised our robust approach to safety and person-centred care. Inspectors noted that our staff are not only well-trained in safeguarding and medicine management but are also deeply committed to the dignity of every individual.

Key highlights from the report include:

• Fernbank is led by a committed registered manager who is well supported by the provider’s management team. They have created a culture of openness; residents, their relatives, and staff are frequently given opportunities to share ideas.
• Residents are supported to maintain their autonomy, whether through self-administering medicines or enjoying the freedom to visit places of their choice.
• Dining experiences were highly rated; residents provided consistently positive feedback regarding the choice and quality of the food.
• The report highlighted recent refurbishments, with one relative describing the dining room as “lovely” and the premises as “well-maintained” and “nifty.”

Living life to the full

Our activity programme remains a cornerstone of life at Fernbank. The CQC observed residents enjoying a variety of sessions, including carpet boules, live music entertainment, and Scrabble.

One resident shared their experience with inspectors, saying:

“Staff are very friendly. There is a very nice atmosphere. They arrive at work with a smile. The morale is good. Really polite and really friendly.”

Going the Extra Mile: Our Team’s 100km Challenge

At Abundant Grace Dementia Nursing Home, we see the daily impact of dementia and cancer, not just on our residents, but on the families who love them. It’s a journey that requires immense strength, patience, and specialised care.

On 23–24 May 2026, our incredible team is taking their dedication far beyond our home in Seaford. Nurse Sam, Senior Care Assistant Rita, and Nurse Rachel are participating in the Ultra Challenge: London to Brighton. This isn’t just a casual stroll; it is a gruelling 100km trek that tests physical endurance and mental fortitude.

Why are they doing it? As healthcare workers, our team sees first-hand every day just how vital professional support is for families navigating difficult health diagnoses. By taking on this monumental challenge, they are committed to ensuring those in need have the expert care they deserve.

Supporting two incredible causes: Our team has chosen to dedicate their efforts to two charities that provide life-changing support:

• Sam & Rita – supporting Dementia UK: Every penny raised by Sam and Rita will go directly to Dementia UK. This charity is dedicated to providing specialised, compassionate care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, through their Admiral Nurses.

• Rachel – supporting Macmillan Cancer Support: Rachel is raising vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Her efforts will help ensure that people living with cancer have the physical and emotional support they need to face the challenges ahead.

This event is a true test of endurance, and our team is already deep into training to ensure they can go the distance for a cause that sits close to our hearts.

Why we’re running for St Barnabas House

As a company deeply rooted in the local community, SCNH is proud to support St Barnabas House. For those who aren’t familiar, they provide specialist palliative care to people with life-limiting illnesses in Worthing and the surrounding areas.

Their work is about more than just medical care; it’s about providing dignity, comfort, and emotional support to patients and their families during life’s most challenging moments. Most of their services are provided free of charge, which is only possible through community fundraising efforts like this one.

Thursday, 11th December 2025: Christmas Jumper Day! Time to dig out your sparkiest Christmas jumpers. A fun day guaranteed for residents and staff.

Monday, 15th December 2025: 2:00 PM – A Special Visit from Father Christmas!  The highlight of the season. Join us for a Meet and Greet and the official Grotto Opening. A magical afternoon for all ages.

Friday, 19th December 2025: The Berkeley Lodge Christmas Party. Our main festive celebration, complete with fun, laughter, and seasonal treats.

Friday, 26th December 2025 (Boxing Day): 2:30 PM – A Christmas Concert.  Keep the festive spirit alive the day after Christmas with a beautiful concert performance.
